The Mondo Eco literary festival restarts with previews for 2026. On Friday, January 23, at 6:30 p.m., we’ll be guests at the Librart bookstore in Villaspeciosa to present Karola Cappai and Maria Bernardetta Cabras’s book, “Cammino per la vita. Con l’autismo tra i 88 tempio di Shikoku” (Walk for Life: With Autism Among the 88 Temples of Shikoku).
The Library’s books on disabilities are available in the regional catalogue Opac Sardegna

In the fall of 2023, eighteen people will take a transcontinental flight from Italy to Japan. Their destination is the island of Shikoku, where they will hike part of the 88 Temple Trail, created by the Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi in the 8th century AD to spread “True Word Buddhism.”
The group includes four people with autism: Danilo, Federico, Lorenzo, and Simone. Walking with them are some of their parents, a brother, and two sisters, one just seven years old. They are accompanied by an expert guide, an educator, and six volunteers.
The journey reveals the difficulties of dealing with a new experience and the life practices of Japanese culture, and demonstrates that each person’s development is fostered by a social context that rejects the ableist prejudice of “not capable,” a discriminatory and insidious cultural barrier to the development of people with disabilities.
