Barbara Onnis

Barbara Onnis is Professor of Asian History and Institutions at the University of Cagliari. Her primary research interests focus on contemporary Chinese history and foreign policy. Specifically, her primary (and predominant) focus is on the foreign policy of the People’s Republic of China, approached from different perspectives and in diverse contexts, both temporally (revolutionary and post-revolutionary eras) and spatially (concerning specific regions but also its global dimension). Her research aims to shed light on the methods adopted by Beijing to regain the centrality it lost on the international stage during the infamous “century of shame and humiliation” and to shape a new multipolar international order, suited to its interests and worldview, as a valid alternative to the American unipolarity that emerged after the end of the Cold War.
