Gianluca Scroccu teaches Contemporary History at the University of Cagliari. In late 2017, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Remarque Institute at New York University. He specialises in the political and social history of republican Italy, the history of anti-fascism and the relationship between civil religion and political religion in the history of US presidents. In December 2016, he received the “Fiuggi Storia- Fondazione Levi-Pelloni” National Award and in October 2017, the “Giacomo Matteotti” National Award (non-fiction), organised by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, for his book “La sinistra credibile. Antonio Giolitti tra socialismo, riformismo ed europeismo (1964-2010)” (The Credible Left: Antonio Giolitti between Socialism, Reformism and Europeanism (1964-2010)), Carocci, 2016. A biography of Sandro Pertini will be published by Salerno editrice in January 2026.
