INSPIRED BY THE INFERNO FROM DANTE ALIGHIERI’S “THE DIVINE COMEDY.” WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY MARIO LUBINO AND MARGHERITA FRAU Starring Stefano Dionisi, Margherita Frau, Mario Lubino, and Aldo Milia

The play begins with Dante dreaming of his beloved Beatrice, but unaware of Beatrice’s fate after her untimely death, he decides to embark on a journey to find her. Troubled by a divine voice whispering that Beatrice may be in Hell, he decides to begin his search there.
Before reaching the gates of Hell, Dante encounters the three tempting beasts: the leopard, the lion, and the she-wolf. A guide, Virgil, comes to his aid and accompanies him on his journey. The theatrical performance recites the most beautiful verses of the Divine Comedy, taken from the Inferno; the original lines for each Canto are faithfully reproduced. Once through the gates of Hell, Dante and Virgil find themselves before Charon, who sorts the souls of the damned. This is Canto III. Canto V follows with the meeting of Paolo and Francesca, and then we arrive at the Gluttons in Canto VI, where Dante meets his fellow citizen Ciacco and Cerberus who devours the damned. Canto XXVI also contains the adventures of Ulysses, and it concludes with Canto XXXIII, where Count Ugolino tells his sad story.
